IAN PURVES
Company Manager/Stage Manager and currently Club President

Ian's interest in musical theatre began over forty years ago.  At that time he was a performer. Since then he has turned his hand to many different aspects of the amateur theatre world - writing, directing, setting up new groups, administrative posts and leading workshops on Stage Management.  He has been involved with Lyric for many years now and celebrates his 21st year - 21st consecutive production as Stage Manager that is!  Outside Lyric season he works freelance assisting other theatre companies. His vast experience has taken him to a variety of venues, including London's Old Vic.  His repertoire of successes includes all the major musicals - several times over! - several revues, plays and numerous pantomimes, some of which he has written.  Recent productions in the Glasgow area have included:  Oliver! (Theatre Royal), Les Miserables (Pavilion Theatre), Pajama Game (Mitchell Theatre), the world premiere of Fame Forever (King's Theatre), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (RSAMD), The Full Monty (Pavilion Theatre), Hello Dolly! (Mitchell Theatre), The King and I (Mitchell Theatre).  Always in heavy demand, future productions in his busy diary include Calamity Jane (King's Theatre), Summer Holiday (King's Theatre), Copacabana (RSAMD), Annie (Mitchell Theatre).  Ian also finds time to direct the annual musical production at the school where he teaches.  He has just completed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which received great acclaim.  An Honorary Life Member of Lyric, Ian is currently Club President, an position he feels highly honoured to hold.  So far as club records go back, he is the first Stage Manager to hold the post and considers this a great tribute to the great army of unsung heroes who work behind the scenes on every theatre production.
